Project One
This is a case of a client whose employee's behavior was erratic. The employee lacked the ability to prioritize work and had excessive mood swings in dealing with her supervisor and customers.
The supervisor attempted to discuss an issue with the employee who then became very upset and stormed out of the office, telling the supervisor she quit because she was too upset to continue. The supervisor called this employee's home, but the employee wouldn't speak to the supervisor. She insisted on communicating through her husband.
The client decided they didn't want the employee to return, but were concerned about the legal aspects of refusing her return. The situation was complicated by the fact that this employee had a condition that would lead to a temporary total disability in a matter of weeks.
The client was very emotional about the issue and its impact on the business climate of the other service businesses in the small town in which his business resided.
Our consultant discussed the case with the client and explained the logical and appropriate legal approach to the problem. He assisted the client in drafting a letter to the employee to clarify what occurred and clearly state the employer's position.
Resolution:
The employer was frustrated by the lack of communication with the employee and was concerned that the situation might erode enough to spark possible legal action. Northeast HR for Hire was able to diffuse the emotional impact and present positive, concrete solutions to the problem. By notifying the employee of the employer's intent and clarifying the issue, our consultant assisted the client in successfully resolving a difficult work relationship with his employee.
The letter outlined the client's acceptance of a voluntary termination. The client's response to the service was, "I didn't know what to do. You took away the emotionalism and clarified the issue to enable me to make a decision that was good for everyone involved."
